The elderly victim, who works as a security guard at Chandigarh Sweets in Industrial Area Phase-I, was returning home on his bicycle when the incident occurred, as per the FIR dated March 25, 2026.

According to the FIR, when the victim reached the Sector 45/50 dividing road near Nangli Ashram, two youths approached him from behind and asked him to stop. When he complied, one of them snatched his Vivo mobile phone, which had an Airtel SIM (number 8699275706), while the other took his purse containing his Aadhaar card and some cash. Both fled the spot immediately.

Police stated that the stolen property was recovered from the accused during the investigation. It has been seized through a seizure memo and deposited in the police station malkhana.

The accused is a resident of Sector 45, Chandigarh, and has studied up to Class 11, as per police records.

Police further revealed that the accused is part of a two-member group that had set up a makeshift hut in the forested area of Sector 50. “They gather there to consume intoxicants, as they are drug addicts. They operate in the evening or at night, targeting passersby, robbing and snatching their belongings before fleeing into the jungle. This is their modus operandi, driven by their addiction,” police said.
