Data indicates that nearly eight out of ten companies failed to meet their recruitment targets.

Modern Indian companies are significantly shifting their hiring strategies, prioritizing quality and specialized skills over large-scale recruitment. A recent report titled Work in India: FY 2026-27 Hiring Trends by UpGrad Recruit highlights this transformation, noting that the national job market is entering a new era where precision is valued above sheer headcount.

UpGrad Recruit CEO Phalgun Kompalli emphasized that India’s employment landscape is moving away from volume-based hiring toward a model driven by accuracy. Professionals possessing three to eight years of experience have emerged as the most sought-after candidates across various sectors. Simultaneously, the ongoing restructuring within IT services and global capability centers is creating a larger pool of seasoned technical experts, offering companies a unique opportunity to secure high-level talent.

Data indicates that nearly eight out of ten companies failed to meet their recruitment targets. This struggle reveals that the primary challenge facing businesses is not necessarily a shortage of qualified talent, but rather inefficiencies within their internal hiring processes.

This comprehensive study incorporates insights from 11,418 senior human resources, talent management, and business executives across 12 diverse sectors. While 70 percent of firms expect stable hiring for the current fiscal year, critical roles now take between eight to 20 weeks to fill, underscoring a more rigorous and selective approach to recruitment.
