Bihar Government Launches Digital Tracking for 2 Lakh School Vehicles

Parents can now track their child's school bus fitness, driver details, insurance and location, all on one portal.

The commute for schoolchildren in Bihar is set to become safer. The state's Transport Department is preparing to launch a special portal in August. Through this portal, complete details of over 2 lakh school vehicles across the state will be maintain in electronic format. Now, complete records of buses, vans, and autos operating in private schools across all districts, including Patna, will be directly available with the Transport Department. Registration on this portal will now be mandatory for every school vehicle, big or small, that transports children. Under the new system, DMs, SPs, and DTOs at the district level will be able to monitor school buses online. Officials will now keep a round-the-clock watch on vehicle fitness, insurance, and driver details. This will help curb dilapidated vehicles running on the roads without fitness certification. If a vehicle's fitness certificate or insurance expires, the department will be notified immediately, and action will be taken against the concerned school.

This portal will also prove helpful for parents. It will be easy for parents to track their kid information & come to know where the bus reach and remain not to worry about the kid safety. This will play a very important role in child safety and help to reduce kidnapping, rape, murder cases. Parents will be able to visit the portal, enter their child's school bus number, and check its fitness status, driver's name, insurance, permit, and pollution certificate status. Not only this, vehicles will also have special QR codes affixed to them. By scanning this, anyone will be able to verify the authenticity of the vehicle and its driver.

The Transport Department is also going to connect these vehicles to a location tracking system. This will allow the location and speed of vehicles to be monitored. The department has set a target of completing the registration and monitoring work for all 2 lakh school vehicles in the state by December.
