Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi return remaining security cover; RJD alleges political vendetta by Bihar government

The Bihar government provided Z+ category security to former CM Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi. Roughly a month ago, it downgraded the Z+ security cover of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi.

They also received bulletproof cars. The couple's Z+ security cover was significantly scaled down following a review by the state government. The decision triggered a political controversy.

A protest then took place against the removal of security. Following this, Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi returned the remaining security personnel deployed at their 10, Circular Road residence in Patna. The RJD alleged that the main agenda behind the security removal was to target the opposition figures in the state. The main objective was to target the Yadav family and remove the status of the opposition leader in the state.

Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav also returned his Y security cover, signaling his support for the family's stance.

RJD spokesperson Shakti Yadav protested on Saturday outside the 10, Circular Road residence. The former MLA said the Yadav family was upset over what he called repeated insults by the government, and asserted that RJD workers would now take responsibility for their leaders' safety.

The government wants to kill our leaders , but we will try to confirm their security on our own," he said. He also linked the issue to the recent allotment of the 10, Circular Road bungalow to BJP minister Nand Kishor Yadav — a move Rabri Devi had strongly opposed.

RJD leaders questioned the timing of the decision, arguing that both Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi continue to enjoy public support and regularly draw large crowds at political events.

The party raised concerns over Bihar's law and order situation, claiming that reducing security for senior opposition leaders sends the wrong message. As the Leader of the Opposition, she is now eligible for a different category of housing.
