Delhi is preparing to introduce a new tourism attraction on the Yamuna River, with a cruise service expected to begin next month under the city’s river rejuvenation and leisure development programme.
Instead of a traditional transport framing, the project is being positioned as an urban recreational experience aimed at giving residents a short, curated leisure option within the city itself. The planned journey will last about one hour and operate as a round trip along the river stretch.
The vessel selected for the service is a 40-seat cruise boat constructed in Mumbai and later transported to Delhi in January. After arrival, it underwent interior design upgrades and technical installations to make it suitable for passenger operations.
According to officials familiar with the plan, the cruise is now fully equipped and ready for deployment, pending final administrative approvals. A formal launch schedule is expected to be announced within the next two weeks.
The experience onboard is designed around comfort and leisure, with planned features including light entertainment, music, and food services for passengers during the river journey.
The initiative also connects with a wider riverfront development vision, where water-based activities such as water sports and other recreational options are being explored for future phases.
Rather than functioning as transport infrastructure, the project is intended to reposition the Yamuna stretch as a city-based tourism and recreation zone accessible to a broader public audience.
