India Leads Global AI Health Adoption at 85%, Well Ahead of US and UK: BCG Report
India has emerged as the global leader in artificial intelligence adoption for personal healthcare, with 85% of consumers already using AI-powered tools, according to a new global study.
A report by Boston Consulting Group shows that India is significantly ahead of major economies, highlighting a widening gap in digital health adoption between emerging and developed markets.
The survey, covering more than 13,000 consumers across 15 countries, found that global AI usage in healthcare stands at around 60%. In comparison, adoption is lower in the United States (50%), the United Kingdom (43%) and Japan (34%).
A major driver of India’s rapid uptake is younger users. The study found that 78% of Gen Z and 71% of millennials in India already rely on AI tools for health-related tasks such as symptom analysis, wellness tracking and basic medical guidance.
The report notes that current adoption is concentrated in chatbots and wearable devices, but user expectations are evolving quickly toward more advanced “agentic AI” systems.
These systems are expected to go beyond support functions and perform tasks such as booking appointments, managing referrals and identifying potential drug interactions, signalling a shift toward AI-integrated healthcare rather than traditional doctor-only workflows.
