The country's active storage repositories currently hold over 197 lakh tonnes of product.

The central government confirmed on Monday that Indian farmers have purchased a massive 11.17 lakh tonnes of organic manure during the current sowing window. This represents an incredible 3.5-fold increase compared to the 3.2 lakh tonnes purchased during the same period last year, signaling a positive and steady shift away from traditional chemical inputs toward sustainable options.

Providing deep sectoral details, Additional Secretary Aparna S. Sharma highlighted this positive trend during a high-level meeting. She noted that the surge demonstrates a growing preference among rural communities to adopt organic nutrient sources, which significantly improves long-term soil health across major agricultural zones.

Addressing potential supply anxieties stemming from recent geopolitical developments in West Asia, officials assured that domestic fertilizer availability remains completely secure. The country’s active storage repositories currently hold over 197 lakh tonnes of product, which comfortably satisfies more than 51 percent of the entire seasonal demand.

To maintain this stability, proactive government efforts have successfully driven total domestic manufacturing up to a record 524.62 lakh tonnes. Furthermore, ports received over 25 lakh tonnes of vital imports this June, while an additional 17 lakh tonnes of urea are already moving through formal bidding channels.

Ultimately, these combined supply strategies ensure that local distribution systems face zero disruptions while retail rates remain locked. With a massive 1.71 lakh crore rupees allocated for subsidies, the administration continues to absorb rising global costs to protect the financial interests of farming families.
