CHANDIGARH: Private hospitals in the city associated with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), will observe a bandh on June 6 till 2pm in support of the strike called by the Indian Medical Association. Emergency services will continue as usual.

The doctors are demanding better protection against increasing instances of violence against them, especially when a patient under their watch happens to die. They also seek that the police be sensitised not to automatically register cases on medical negligence.

“The Prevention of Violence against Medical Personnel and Establishment Act, 2009, has been implemented in 19 states, but few convictions result,” IMA president-elect Dr Neeraj Kumar said.

“We are going on a strike on will organise a Dilli Chalo – IMA March,” said Dr Ajay Aggarwal, president of IMA’s Chandigarh chapter. “Over 100 doctors from the region will join doctors at the Rajghat in Delhi,” he said.
