Punjab Cong demands resignation of Shivraj Singh Chouhan over deaths in MP farmers' protest

Chandigarh: The Punjab Congress today demanded the resignation of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the death of five persons in the farmers' agitation in the state. "The party condemns the killings in police firing in MP," Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar told reporters here. Holding the BJP government there responsible for "mishandling" the situation, he demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi seek Chouhan's resignation.

Punjab govt to present maiden budget on June 20

Chandigarh: The Captain Amarinder Singh government will hold the Budget session of the 15th Punjab Vidhan Sabha from June 14 to June 23, with the presentation of the annual budget for 2017-18 slated for June 20. This was decided on Wednesday at a meeting of the Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Chief Minister Captain Amarinder.

Punjab govt to set up two Ayush hospitals: Mohindra

Chandigarh: The Punjab government will set up two 50-bed Ayush hospitals in the state, Health minister Brahm Mohindra said here today. The standardise services of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy would also be provided to the indoor and outdoor patients in these hospitals, he added.

Drug peddler arrested

Moga:  Police today arrested an alleged drug peddler and claimed to have recovered 30 grams of heroin from him. The peddler has been identified as Raj Sukhjit Singh, the police said.  The accused was arrested during checking at a routine 'naka' at Joge Wala village, they added.

46-yr-old rapes 14-yr-old step daughter

Ludhiana: A 46-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 14-year-old step daughter here, the police said today. A case was registered at a local police station on the complaint of the victim's mother.    

Two killed, 22 injured in road accident

Nawanshahr : Two persons, including a child, died and at least 22 were injured when a private tourist bus collided with a gas tanker head-on near Kathgarh on Balachaur-Ropar Road today. The accident occurred in the wee hours when the tourist bus was going to Chandigarh from Jalandhar and the tanker was on its way to Amritsar from Banur, the police said.
